With an over-abundance of nutrition info being spewed out all over the internet, it is often confusing, time-consuming and in a nut-shell 'overwhelming' to decide what to read, apply and most importantly... TRUST.

 

Health experts pop up in a number of mediums, including social media platforms, like youtube and instagram, as well as an over-excess of blogospheres.

Many offer engaging, entertaining and colourful content... but how do we know if we can trust their words?

 

Have they just made it all up?... Was there really a gingerbread house? 

 

In the internet world of health content, it is paramount to seek reliable, evidenced-based information. Just like in the real world of getting your car fixed! You need a reliable, experienced mechanic... and not a shonky, unregistered hustler. 

 

Often left dazed and confused with an abundance of mixed and conflicting health advise, a lot of people end up making no behaviour changes for better health OR WORSE take on advise that is harmful, over-restrictive or unsustainable.

 

Taking control of your own health first starts with the decision to make a change. From here the next best step for success is seeking reliable, up to date, evidence-based health information... that is practical to apply.

1. The Conversation

 

The Conversation is an independent platform for information, sourced from both the academic and research community. Their team includes professional editors, who work with the CSIRO, Universities and research institute experts, to inform and empower public readers. Those who write for the conversation have proven expertise and must disclose both this and any funding or potential conflicts of interest. The articles produced on the conversation are independent, high-quality and authenticated.

2. Nutrition Facts

 

Nutrition facts believes that “a significant part of the problem is that individuals who want to make the correct dietary choices… are faced with a deluge of confusing and conflicting nutritional advise”. This website provides both individuals and doctors with the most up to date peer-reviewed nutrition and health research, presented in a very user-friendly way. Nutrition Facts is a strictly non-commercial, science-based public service provided by Dr. Michael Greger.

3. Thinking Nutrition

 

This website was developed by Dr Tim Crowe, a career research scientist and educator. Dr Crowe is an Advanced Accredited Practising Dietitian, who started this website to provide credible, evidence-based nutrition messages in straightforward language. His information can be used for practical implications for personal health.

4. PubMed

 

PubMed is a free search engine accessing primarily the MEDLINE database of references and abstracts on life sciences and biomedical topics. It comprises more than 28 million citations, one of the largest of all searchable biomedical databases.

In layman's terms, it is a super efficient search base for evidenced-based health literature. It is very scientific, and therefore can be complex to interpret, but very reliable.
